"Can you hear me now?" from Donner Peak!

Page 1 of 2Next

Hello 2MC, short time listener and first time poster. I made the mistake of talking to The Whiskey Weed Wacker about all this radio stuff and somehow a license made it into my pocket and a radio into my Jeep!

I'll be camping at Meadow Lake, north of Truckee, for the labor day weekend and figured I'd see if this hunk of expensive metal and wires actually works! There is a nearby repeater, W6SAR, that I'll be trying to hit. Fairly confident I'll make it since it's similar elevation to the nearby Meadow Lake Hill. I'll make the long and arduous trek (drive my Jeep up) the very not-at-all steep hill to give myself the best chance.

If anyone would like to listen for my little radio event I'll plan to be transmitting around 4:00pm on Saturday the 31st. It's entirely possible I can reach the Donner repeater from camp and my other exploration around the area though, so I'll call into it when I can throughout the whole weekend.

73. That's what we say, right?

Will you be up high enough to try and get into the K6POU machine (the Mothership)? How about simplex?

Howdy Blair!

Well sir, I would like to echo the sentiments of Don Babcock (WA2GDI) regarding this matter. Like Don, I will also be straining my ear drums to detect your distant transmission on OR about 16:00 Hours on Saturday - August 31, 2019. Hopefully, those of us who are attempting to monitor your transmission will not have to compete with the likes of some individual who might be engaging in a droning treatise about the inequities of their Satellite Television Bill or compete with some other individual who might find it necessary to launch into a regurgitation about their personal, familial or professional history. In any case, I wish you the best of luck!

Very Best Regards,

Bob Rojas - (KM6UFY).

I have no idea if I'll be able to hit K6POU, so I'm going to subscribe to the "more cowbell" approach and rotate through trying K6POU, W6SAR, and some simplex on 146.52. Maybe one will work, maybe all, and maybe none. Hopefully y'all can catch some of it. If not I'll try to update online whenever I get signal that I did in fact try and was not eaten by a bear.

Howdy Blair!

Well sir, thank you for your heads up regarding your potential transmission strategy for this coming Saturday afternoon. Remember, it is far better to be eaten by your old lady than it is by a any bruin out in the boondocks. It's just some friendly food for thought.

Very Best Regards,

Hey Blair !

It sounds like your getting ready to have some back country fun. And it will be interesting to see what you can make of it with the radio that incarnated itself inside your Jeep with little warning! Note: Unusual things seem to occur after visiting the WW Wacker.....You are not the first ...

Have fun! ....I'll be listening ....

Here's some pics from the top of Mt. Lacey, including the promised ice patch holding on for dear life!

Thanks for helping me out with the contact, still can't believe the little Baofeng made it...

Howdy Blair!

Well sir, thank you for sharing your spectacular photographs with the neighborhood-at-large. Oh, and by the way, thank you for the constructive plug for the often denigrated and mocked Baofeng product line. And yes, like so many other folks out here, I am also a Baofeng owner.

Very Best Regards,

Bob Rojas - (KM6UFY).
